My name is Konstantin Dankov. In order to save time people call me Koko. Every time, no exceptions!
What follows is a futile attempt at trying to describe or label myself.
Relatively intelligent, absentminded, impressionable person with unreliable habit of learning meaningless stuff.
Done. Now lets get to the more meaningful part.
Who am I?
For the last 7 years I’ve been trying to make a living from working with that extremly hard to understand medium – The Web. My personal explorations revolve around the Front-end & Design side of things. I consider myself to be quite proficient in HTML & CSS.
Lately I’m looking more into Web and UI design. Learning about typography and graphic design in general. Trying to spend my time evenly between MacVim and Photoshop.
There is not really a free time to speak of, but I try to cycle from time to time. At random times I would try to to participate in beer (or whiskey) drinking rituals with some interesting individuals, if there are any to be found.
What am I fighting for?
I am fighting for my own happiness! (Yeah, pretty selfish, I know)
After nearly 5 years of lazy blogging in Bulgarian while living in Sofia, fairly big change in my life happened. I moved to London.
Apart from the obvious necessity to get better and practice my English, it seems that I have become arrogant enough to try and waste the time of so many English speaking people around the world with my ramblings.
This name is derived from my love for Science Fiction. One of my favorite authors is Robert A. Heinlein. The first book from him I read was “Time Enough for Love” and it was thought-provoking to say the least. Since then, I’ve been trying to read as much of Heinlein’s works while not completely giving up on any other possibly-interesting reads.
Here is what Wikipedia has to say on the subject:
“There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch” (alternatively, “There’s no such thing as a free lunch” or other variants) is a popular adage communicating the idea that it is impossible to get something for nothing. The acronyms TANSTAAFL and TINSTAAFL are also used.
The phrase and the acronym are central to Robert Heinlein‘s 1966 libertarian science fiction novel The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, which popularized it.
When I’m not otherwise occupied my mind tends to go off on a tangents of its own. Unwillingly doing quite a bit of thinking on subjects I can’t possibly fully understand, yet. So … the big part of this blog will be me trying to make sense of the deep shit, as in – That was some deep shit, man!
Also things, like reality, seem so obvious to me, but it looks like some people are not as lucky. Really?!
On occasion I have found it difficult to articulate my beliefs and general understanding of things to some of my friends. So, I will try and get my thoughts together with the help of writing down the profound stuff.
I have this hope, that writing will help me get my thoughts in order. All that chaos in my head to be put down in a meaningful and structured form sounds like an amazing proposition.
Language. Getting good at writing in a foreign language seems to be completely out of reach to me. Bad spelling can be fixed by spellcheckers, but bad understanding can’t. This can be described as a masochistic exercise in learning English by humiliating myself publicly.
As always, time is the final storyteller. I have no idea what will come of this!
